Barnhardt’s Bleached Cotton Leads the Way to Better Wet Wipes
Barnhardt Manufacturing Company leads the market to innovative wet wipe designs that incorporate cotton as a key raw material component. Costco’s Kirkland Brand Baby Wipe was the 1st to market baby wipe in the U.S. market with cotton fiber as part of the blend. Barnhardt’s High Q Ultra bleached cotton was developed with the baby in mind as a key to the Mother’s emotional ties to cotton and improved wiping efficiency. It is reported that the Kirkland Brand baby wipe has been a very successful product since the introduction in August 2005. Since the Costco introduction, CVS launched their Playskool baby wipes brand and Walgreen's relaunched their Comfort-Smooth baby wipes brand to include Barnhardt’s premium High Q Ultra bleached cotton as an important component in the wipe.
During the past 18 months, as a result of the market education campaign initiated by Barnhardt Manufacturing, most of the spunlace manufacturers in the U.S market are now cotton-capable. These spunlace manufacturers include PGI (www.polymergroupinc.com), Ahlstrom (www.ahlstrom.com), Jacob-Holm (www.jacob-holm.com), Spuntech (www.spuntech.com) and Suominen (www.suominen.fi).
Other dominant U.S. retailers are in the planning stages of introducing cotton-containing wet wipes and more programs are set to announce in 2007. Barnhardt’s High Q Ultra and UltraLace are sure to see continuing increased demand as a fiber of choice for most wet wipe applications including facial wipes, baby wipes and household wipes.
